Team Members at Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts Benefit from Parent Company’s Commitment to Mentoring; Program Participants Rise Through Corporate Ranks and Advance Careers
With National Mentoring Day October 27, Empire City Casino employees are fully engaged as both mentees and mentors with a focus on advancing their careers and professional growth
Yonkers, NY - Since January 2019, when MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) (“MGM Resorts” or the “Company”) acquired Empire City Casino by MGM Resorts (“Empire City”) in Yonkers, New York, employees of the regional video lottery terminal facility have largely benefited from robust training and development resources. A favorite program of employees continues to be the MGM Resorts Employee Mentorship Program, which serves to develop and foster employee advancement opportunities and enhance professional knowledge, skills, and abilities. The program is open to all employees who possess a desire for personal and professional growth and provides them with the opportunity to elevate their careers through structured, self-directed learning. New York-based team members have embraced all the tenets of National Mentoring Day, which aims to make mentoring accessible to everyone and support positive change, by not only entering the program as mentees but also serving as mentors to fellow MGM Resorts employees across the country.
Mentors and mentees of the program meet in-person or virtually for at least one hour each month to discuss career advice, professional advancement, and strategies that will support continued career progression within the company. For most participants, the collaborative relationship often continues long after the six-month formal mentoring program concludes.
“It has been such a privilege to see our employees collaborate with one another and pass down career expertise,” said Ed Domingo, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Empire City Casino. “I am proud to work among those who not only want to advance their own careers, but also want to help others at Empire City and throughout our MGM Resorts portfolio develop successful careers for themselves. I have personally had the privilege of mentoring employees who have advanced their careers within our company and are now mentoring future leaders of our organization.”
Since MGM Resorts implemented the program, Empire City has seen team members from departments across their organization participate. Many mentees have gone on to become mentors for other MGM Resorts employees, expanding their networks and reach into Nevada, Maryland, Michigan, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Ohio and beyond. Mentor and mentee pairings, which are made between employees at least one seniority level apart, have further strengthened the sense of community among employees in the global hospitality and entertainment company who are looking to grow in their careers.
“The mentorship program proved to be a great tool that supported my personal and professional growth. It was a fantastic opportunity that allowed me to gain valuable advice, assisted in the development of my knowledge and skills, and helped advance my career,” said Karen Delgado, Empire City Casino’s Director of Surveillance who before elevating to her current position was a mentee of Senior Vice President and General Manager Ed Domingo. “My mentor was also able to offer opportunities that expanded my existing network of professional contacts, allowing me to understand the organization better and lead change. I’ve benefited greatly from this program and believe that this opportunity provides so much value to our team members.”
