Springfield, Mass. (August 15, 2018) – MGM Springfield will be home to the ultimate sports hub when it unveils TAP Sports Bar when it opens August 24. Featuring a 10-lane bowling alley, arcade, an extensive selection of high-quality local and regional craft beers, elevated bar food and more than 50 big screen TVs – including one massive video wall – there won’t be a more entertaining place to catch the game (besides the game itself).

Guests will enjoy a lively, open connection between the bar and dining areas with access to the adjoining arcade and bowling alley. Those looking for a bit of the outdoors will enjoy sitting on the patio while they watch the game, or take in a bit of people watching with all the lively activities taking place on the adjacent Plaza.

“TAP is a celebration of beer and sports. It will be warm, open and inviting – a perfect place to meet, enjoy a game or people watch, all while enjoying great food and drinks,” said MGM Springfield Vice President of Food & Beverage Anthony Caratozzolo. “TAP will be a great local bar that gives a nod to Springfield’s heritage while aspiring to create a new history of its own.”

The design team at STUDIO McCORMACK was inspired by the idea of adapting the 1907 YWCA building into a high-energy restaurant and bar that is sure to become a hub of the action at MGM Springfield. Guests will walk into a space that appears to have been built decades ago with vintage sports memorabilia, historic gym lockers and old-world bottle displays that create an eclectic and timeless look. Locals will recognize the sign from Springfield’s beloved Keg Room while commemorative plaques celebrating milestone years in New England sports history adorn each booth. As an homage to Springfield as the birthplace of basketball, TAP will feature a mini-basketball court with the first hoop – a peach basket – and hardwood flooring has painted to reflect the original basketball key.
