MGM’s premier Southern course to host PGA TOUR Champions for 11th year; free general admission tickets available Thursday, March 26 - Sunday, March 29

03 March 2020

BILOXI, Miss. – The PGA TOUR Champions descend upon MGM Resorts International’s Fallen Oak March 26-29 for the 11th consecutive year for this year’s Rapiscan Systems Classic. Tickets for the event, featuring some of the most recognizable names in golf including two-time tournament winner Miguel Angel Jimenez and defending champion Kevin Sutherland, are complimentary.

Joining Jimenez and Sutherland in the 2020 Rapiscan Systems Classic field are fellow tournament champions Michael Allen, Tom Lehman and Jeff Maggert, the 2019 Schwab Cup Champion, as well as John Daly, Fred Funk, Bernhard Langer and Scott McCarron, the 2019 PGA TOUR Champions Player of the Year.

Over the course of the three-day, 54-hole stroke play competition, 78 PGA TOUR Champions players will vie for a $1.6 million purse, with $240,000 to the Rapiscan Systems Classic winner.  Each year, three days of coverage on the Golf Channel puts the national spotlight on Coastal Mississippi.

The tournament has an annual economic impact of $16 million and has raised more than $2.77 million for local charities in Coastal Mississippi through the Birdies for Charity program since the tournament’s inception in 2010. In 2019, participating charities raised more than $445,176 through Birdies for Charity. Donors may enter in the Guess the Birdies Contest either by guessing on a pledge card or online. The closest to the number or exact guess will be entered into a drawing to win a two-night stay at Beau Rivage, round of golf for two at Fallen Oak, and a $200 food and beverage credit.

Fallen Oak is one of only two courses built by MGM Resorts International for its guests, joining the heralded Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. A legendary Tom Fazio-designed golf course, Fallen Oak was structured around the idea of preserving the natural landscape of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The course has been recognized by Golfweek as one of the country’s best, earning the No. 2 spot on its Best Casino Course list, behind only Shadow Creek, and No. 21 on its list of Top 200 Resort Courses.

“Hosting the PGA TOUR Champions and the Rapiscan Systems Classic is something Fallen Oak looks forward to every year. It is an honor to have these gentlemen, who have paved the way for many of today’s young golfers, play our course,” said Fallen Oak Grounds Director Matt Hughes. “Fallen Oak takes great pride in keeping the entire course, from the greens and fairways to the rough and sand traps, in tournament condition year-round.”

Last year, Sutherland defeated Scott Parel in a thrilling seven-hole playoff that extended into Monday after darkness suspended play after five playoff holes on Sunday. Over the past 10 years, the annual PGA TOUR Champions tournament at Fallen Oak has been one of the most exciting stops on the schedule, producing champions such as Lehman (2011), World Golf Hall of Fame member Fred Couples (2012), David Frost (2015) and Jimenez, who successfully defended his 2016 title to shoot -13 in 2017. In 2018, Steve Stricker claimed consecutive titles on PGA TOUR Champions with his 11-under par victory at Fallen Oak.

Free general admission tickets are available for download at http://rapiscansystemsclassic.com. The Rapiscan Systems Classic honors members of Homeland Security, First Responders, as well as our active, reserve, and retired U.S. Military by offering exclusive access to the Patriots’ Pavilion. Conveniently located on the 9th green, the Patriots’ Pavilion is open Friday through Sunday and is handicap accessible. Military tickets are available for download.
