New Festivities include  Life-Sized Igloo Experience at TAP Sports Bar, with Holiday-Themed Cocktails and Bites

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (November 20, 2019) – ‘Tis the season to gather family and friends to celebrate the holiday season at MGM Springfield. Guests are invited to the winter wonderland festivities beginning November 29 with the opening of The Ice Rink at MGM Plaza and the property’s annual tree-lighting ceremony with Santa.

Holiday Season Celebration, November 29
Kicking off the festivities on November 29 at 1 p.m., The Ice Rink at MGM Plaza gives guests the only chance to skate on an outdoor rink in downtown Springfield. Some of New England’s favorite mascots will take the ice, including Boomer of the Springfield Thunderbirds hockey teamSam the Minuteman of UMass Amherst and Chompers and Chew Chew of the Hartford Yard Goats baseball team. Guests also will have the opportunity to mingle with professional skaters Joel Geleynse, Paulette Medal and Courtney Wetterich for a day of fun on the ice.

Once the sun has set, Chris Zito of MIX 93.1 will gather guests around the 38-foot tall LED holiday tree at 6 p.m. for its official lighting. MGM Springfield President & COO Michael Mathis, Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Santa will join together for the magical countdown ceremony featuring a stunning light show set to classical holiday music.

The Ice Rink at MGM Plaza
The Ice Rink at MGM Plaza will run from Monday, Nov. 25 to Monday, Jan. 27. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday, 12 p.m. – 9 p.m. Skating rates are $8 for children, $12 for adults and $8 military and first responders. Ice skate rentals are available for $5 a pair as well as skate assist rentals for $10. To enjoy The Ice Rink at MGM Plaza, children must be five years old and at least 42” tall.

Igloos and a Hearty Beer Cabin, TAP Sports Bar
New at MGM Springfield this year, TAP Sports Bar will present the ultimate outdoor holiday retreat with cozy igloos and a hearty beer cabin called “Base Camp.” The lively experience will include three life-sized and interactive igloos fully stocked with blankets, pillows, heaters and Bluetooth speakers. Guests will enjoy eating, drinking and being merry with signature appetizers and sharable cocktails such as “The Ginger Beer Man,” “The Holiday Layover” and “The North Pole.”

Base Camp at TAP Sports Bar will run from Friday, Nov. 29 through March. The hours of operation are Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. – 1 a.m. Reservations are required, and may be made by calling (413) 273-5410. Packages require a minimum food and beverage spend of $100 per igloo.
