MGM SPRINGFIELD & LINK TO LIBRARIES DONATE 1,000 BOOKS ON DIVERSITY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
SPRINGIELD, MASS. (July 2, 2020) – MGM Springfield, in partnership with Link to Libraries, today announced a donation of 1,000 books to Springfield Public Schools that highlight diversity and social justice.
As school children embark on summer vacation, MGM Springfield is hopeful that these books can continue to support literacy and help extend students’ learning throughout the summer in a way that helps foster pride and brings children joy.
“MGM Springfield prides itself on the diversity of our employees, which reflects the Greater Springfield community. Our hope is that these books, whose main characters are all persons of color, will help children to see themselves and their place in the world with pride and confidence.” said Chris Kelley, President of the Northeast Group, MGM Resorts.
Laurie Flynn, President and Chief Executive Officer of Link to Libraries stated, "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to once again partner with MGM Springfield and the Springfield Public Schools to provide books for students, that we hope will help educate them about their history, the present and the future as they make their way through the world – especially during these difficult times.”
Assistant Superintendent of Schools Lydia Martinez said the book donation could not have come at a better time, pointing to the district wide summer school program launched this summer. “For the first time ever, we are providing every single student an opportunity to explore the notion of who they are and who they want to become,” said Martinez. “We’re very excited and grateful for these books that I’m sure will inspire students as they think about these ideas and their potential for the future.”
As a company, MGM Resorts International has been recognized by DiversityInc as one of the nation’s top companies for its efforts on diversity and inclusion.
