NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., (September 12, 2022) – MGM National Harbor, in partnership with national nonprofit Operation Warm, sponsored an event gifting brand-new coats and athletic-style shoes to about 400 students at Flintstone Elementary School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, on Tuesday, September 13. The students, ranging in age from pre-K to fifth grade, chose from an assortment of colors, styles, and sizes.
While items such as backpacks and school supplies are the star of the show during this back-to-school season, the role of essential clothing, especially with colder days ahead, is critical to a child’s success in school. Children living in poverty are disproportionately affected by absenteeism caused by inclement weather, often missing twice as many school days as their peers. Since 1998, Operation Warm served more than 4.6 million children in need across the United States and Canada.
"Flintstone Elementary School is near and dear to our hearts and we’ve enjoyed supporting them since 2019. We’re thrilled to partner with Operation Warm to provide brand new coats and shoes to Flintstone students who need them most," said Starlet Hunter, Director of Community Engagement at MGM National Harbor. “We hope that through this effort, students can focus on learning and playing with their peers this school year.”
MGM National Harbor is committed to strengthening the livelihood, capacity and resiliency of communities in the region.
