Property now has a total of 37 stations offering free charging to guests and team members

DETROIT, October 12, 2014 - MGM Grand Detroit has completed instillation of 24 new, Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on the sixth floor of its self-parking structure. The units are free to use 24-hours a-day, seven-days-a-week and are available for use by property guests, MGM Grand Detroit team members and the general public. In 2013, MGM Grand Detroit installed Level 1 and Level 2 charging stations and is currently the only casino in the market to offer EV charging stations.

“When we installed the charging stations last year, we did not realize they would become as popular as they have with guests, team members and even local business people,” said Steve Zanella, President and COO, MGM Grand Detroit. “We found that people really like the convenience of being able to charge their cars in the covered and well-monitored location that MGM Grand Detroit provides.”

Each Level 2 charging station offers 240 volts of power through either a wall outlet or SAE J1772 EV ports. The Level 2 stations can take a vehicle to full charge in 2-4 hours. The chargers are approximately 11 inches wide and allowed for instillation on parking structure columns.

With the addition of the 24 new stations, MGM Grand Detroit has 30 Level 2 charging stations and seven Level 1 charging stations on property.  Six of the older Level 2 charging stations have been relocated to other areas (three each to the valet and team member parking areas).

“Over the past several years, MGM Grand Detroit has demonstrated a concentrated dedication to sustainability and being a good corporate citizen in the community,” said Zanella.  “A few examples include the recent upgrade of more than 3,100 lighting fixtures to state-of-the-art, low energy, LED fixtures in our 2.6 million square-foot parking garage and the development of our two-acre urban garden that serves as a resource to local farmers and enhances the area.”
