LAS VEGAS (February 5, 2020) – Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino is expanding its underwater journey to include an immersive virtual reality theater. Opening in mid-March, the Ocean Explorer Virtual Reality (VR) Theater will take guests on an unforgettable underwater voyage through two live-action films and interactive exhibitions.

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 13, 2018) – Four female Johnston’s Crocodiles are the newest additions to Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The freshwater siblings are native to Australia and are commonly referred to as “freshies.”

Silver Spring, Maryland (April 5, 2017) – The Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) today announced that Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas was granted accreditation by AZA’s independent Accreditation Commission, making it the only facility of its kind in Nevada.

To be accredited, Shark Reef Aquarium underwent a thorough review to ensure it has and will continue to meet ever-rising standards, which include animal care, veterinary programs, conservation, education, and safety.

Venture to great depths of the unknown at the world’s first Polar Journey exhibit, now open adjacent to Shark Reef Aquarium inside Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. This interactive experience gives guests a glimpse into the Earth’s polar regions and the animals that call them home. 

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino invites guests to abandon their day jobs and get their feet (or in this case, hands) wet as a guest Aquarist with three new experiential programs. Aptly titled Animal Encounters, the program takes participants behind-the-scenes to assist in feeding the Aquarium’s most-admired residents including stingrays, green sea turtles and zebra sharks.

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay welcomes OD the sea turtle, its newest family member, following a cross-country journey to Las Vegas that grabbed heartstrings and headlines nationwide. After a standard quarantine period, the estimated 50-year-old, 320-pound rescued sea turtle was officially put on display in the 1.3-million gallon Shipwreck Exhibit at Shark Reef Aquarium this morning.

LAS VEGAS (May 13, 2013) – Two male juvenile Komodo dragons direct from Prague are now calling Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay home, joining the attraction’s diverse family of reptiles.

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay plunges to new depths with its Dive with Sharks program for scuba-certified hotel guests of Mandalay Bay and THEhotel. Thrill-seekers will experience a rush of adrenaline while diving side-by-side with dive guides and more than 30 sharks, including sandtiger, white tip and sandbar sharks, in a 1.3-million-gallon exhibit.
