‘Diving Santa’ to Make Surprise Appearances at Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay December 21 to 24

LAS VEGAS (December 17, 2020) – “Here’s come Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus, right through Shark Reef Aquarium. Sharks and sea turtles and schools of fish, joining in on the Vegas holiday fun.” Shark Reef Aquarium’s Old Saint Nick – better known as “Diving Santa” – can be seen making his list and checking it twice while underwater in the popular Shipwreck exhibit, filled with sharks, sea turtles and Bowmouth Guitarfish, among other species. “Diving Santa” will appear at miscellaneous times from December 21 to 24.

Mandalay Bay's Shark Reef Aquarium Hosting Blood Drive Friday, Oct. 30

LAS VEGAS (October 13, 2020) In partnership with American Red Cross of Southern Nevada, Shark Reef Aquarium will host a blood drive Friday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada satellite location will be located in the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Room South Pacific J. All participating donors will receive one complimentary admission to Shark Reef Aquarium and the Undersea Explorer Virtual Reality Theater. Vouchers valid through December 30, 2020 and reservations are required in advance due to capacity limitations.

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 13, 2018) – Four female Johnston’s Crocodiles are the newest additions to Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The freshwater siblings are native to Australia and are commonly referred to as “freshies.”

AZA Grants Accreditation to Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino

Silver Spring, Maryland (April 5, 2017) – The Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) today announced that Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas was granted accreditation by AZA’s independent Accreditation Commission, making it the only facility of its kind in Nevada.

To be accredited, Shark Reef Aquarium underwent a thorough review to ensure it has and will continue to meet ever-rising standards, which include animal care, veterinary programs, conservation, education, and safety.

After a standard quarantine period, the estimated 50-year-old, 320-pound rescued sea turtle was officially put on display in the 1.3-million gallon Shipwreck Exhibit at Shark Reef Aquarium this morning.
