10  area non-profit agencies benefit from MGM’s employee-driven Community Grants Program

11 November 2021

TUNICA, MISS. – Gold Strike Casino Resort has donated $95,000 to 10 non-profit agencies in the Mid-South. The employee-driven grant funds were distributed to organizations focusing on areas from affordable housing and family services to education and workforce development.

“Gold Strike team members take great pride in giving back to the community through a variety of different avenues and recognize now more than ever the importance of supporting charities that serve the communities where we live and work,” said Gold Strike General Manager Brandon Dardeau. “Thanks to their generosity, 10 Mid-South agencies that provide vital assistance will make an even greater impact in our region over the coming months.”

Grant decisions were made by the company’s Community Grant Council, a voluntary employee committee that distributes donations not ear-marked for specific nonprofit organizations or programs into a grant fund with awards based on a grant submission process.

Agencies receiving the grants in the Mid-South focus on homelessness, health and wellness, education and food insecurities.  Grant recipients include Dorothy Day House of Hospitality Inc for the Keeping Homeless Families Together project, Friends of the Levitt Pavilion to conduct health and wellness series programs to the community virtually and through the use of the organization’s greenspace, Healing Hearts Child Advocacy Center to enhance services for victims of child abuse. Funds received by Kindred Place will be utilized by the group’s domestic violence victim’s services program, while the Memphis Child Advocacy Center will use the grant for its victim advocacy program.

Mississippi Council on Economic Education received a grant to aid in increasing students’ economic standard of living while the funding will assist the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association’s housing programs for families in crisis. YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South will also assist in youth enrichment with the Y on The Fly program, consisting of two mobile units designed to deliver programs and services to youth in neighborhoods throughout communities that are unable to take full advance of YMCA programs and services. Palmer Home for Children’s grant will support the organization’s general fund as it strives to provide care and housing to vulnerable children. The grant for Porter-Leath, an organization that has served Memphis’s at risk children and families for more than 170 years,  will provide nutrition assistance for its preschool program.

MGM Resorts Foundation awards funding to local nonprofit agencies that provide services focused on fighting hunger, supporting families and improving the lives of all residents in our communities. Agencies may visit www.mgmresortsfoundation.org/grants to review eligibility criteria and begin the online grant application process. Nonprofits are required to provide support of a Community Grant Fund focus area and operations must be in existence for a minimum of 36 months to be considered.
