Luxor and Excalibur’s Executive Chef Tom Gorball is a talented, hardworking and strong leader, but above all, he’s a proud father. Being an executive chef presents many challenges, especially when it comes to raising a family and working hours outside of the 9 to 5 norm. With Father’s Day approaching, Tom shares what he loves about being a father, the role food plays in the life of his family and his recommendation on scrumptious Father’s Day selections at Luxor and Excalibur’s restaurants.
  • Tell us a little about your family. I have four children, three girls and a boy; and I also have two beautiful stepdaughters. My oldest, Jamie, is 28 years old, followed by Dustin (20), Kristie (17), Jenna (15), Cassie (13) and Brooke (10). They all love food and, thankfully, think my job is pretty cool - especially when the younger ones tell their friends I work in a pyramid and a castle! Two of them are actually considering attending culinary school.
  • What is your favorite part about being a father? I love watching my children blossom into their own individual selves and develop likes, dislikes and dreams. It’s exciting to see them decide who they are and what they want to be. I am so proud of them all. Being a parent is unlike anything in the world. Everything I think and do every single day is for them. Every minute we are all together feels like Father’s Day.
  • If you could choose a Father’s Day meal from any restaurant at Luxor and Excalibur, what would it be? There’s no way I can pick one item, but I would have to say the Wild Game Platter and Seafood Tower with a side of Truffle Mashed Potatoes at TENDER Steak & Seafood is a top choice. For those who prefer Asian cuisine, the Beef Tenderloin in black pepper sauce and Dragon Roll at Rice & Company is a must. Lastly, classic steak lovers would definitely enjoy the Beef Skewers in chipotle barbeque sauce and Oven-roasted Prime Rib at The Steakhouse at Camelot.
