Platinum artist Fantasia Barrino rose to fame in 2004 as the winner of the third season of the reality television series American Idol. Post victory, she released her debut single “I Believe,” which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and shortly after, her debut album Free Yourself was certified Platinum by the RIAA. This performance earned Barrino three GRAMMY nominations in 2006. Barrino’s role of Celie in the Broadway musical The Color Purple also helped to propel her stardom status, where she became a 2007 Theatre World Award recipient.
Sketchbook is Barrino’s first independently released and seventh studio album which dropped on October 11, 2019. This album follows a whopping 2,842,000 albums and 1,425,000 tracks already sold. Fantasia says the album debuts a “new Fantasia,” one who “is being independent and not having anybody standing in the way telling me what I can and cannot do,” according to an interview with People Magazine.
