21 March 2019

BILOXI, Miss. (March 21, 2019) – The biggest names in golf return to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the 10th annual PGA TOUR Champions event at MGM Resorts’ Fallen Oak. All general admission tickets are free Thursday, March 28 through Sunday, March 31. The field for this year’s Rapiscan Systems Classic includes defending champion Steve Stricker as well as Vijay Singh, Tom Lehman, Bernard Langer and previous winners Michael Allen, David Frost and Jeff Maggert.

The purse for the Rapiscan Systems Classic is $1.6 million ($240,000 to winner) with 78 PGA TOUR Champions players competing in the three-day, 54-hole stroke play competition. Each year, the tournament puts the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the national spotlight with three days of coverage on Golf Channel.

Since its inception in 2010, the tournament has had an economic impact of more than $100 million and has raised more than $2.2 million for local charities of the Mississippi Gulf Coast through the Birdies for Charity program. A record $515,544.00 was raised in 2018. Donors may enter in the Guess the Birdies Contest either by guessing on a pledge card or online. The closest to the number or exact guess will be entered into a drawing to win a two-night stay at Beau Rivage, round of golf for two at Fallen Oak, and a $200 food and beverage credit.

Fallen Oak is one of only two courses built by MGM Resorts International for its guests, joining the heralded Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. A legendary Tom Fazio-designed golf course, Fallen Oak was structured around the idea of preserving the natural landscape of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The course has been recognized by Golfweek as one of the country’s best, earning the No. 2 spot on its Best Casino Course list, behind only Shadow Creek, and No. 20 on its list of Top 200 Resort Courses.

“Fallen Oak strives to produce tournament conditions daily, which makes it easier to produce conditions for the PGA TOUR Champions to play on,” said Fallen Oak Grounds Director Matt Hughes. “Fallen Oak is ready and I am looking forward to hosting this 10th annual events.”

Over the past nine years, the annual PGA TOUR Champions tournament at Fallen Oak has been one of the most exciting stops on the schedule, producing champions such as Tom Lehman (2011), World Golf Hall of Fame member Fred Couples (2012), David Frost (2015) and Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, who successfully defended his 2016 title to shoot -13 in 2017. Last year’s champion was Steve Stricker, who claimed consecutive titles on PGA TOUR Champions with his 11-under par victory at Fallen Oak.
