Bank of America and T-Mobile Arena Partner with Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas to Frame New Home
Home Build Commemorates T-Mobile Arena’s First Anniversary
LAS VEGAS (April 3, 2017) – To celebrate T-Mobile Arena’s first anniversary, partners MGM Resorts International and Bank of America will begin a new home build in front of the arena with Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas as a way of saying thank you to the community for helping make the venue’s first year a tremendous success.
More than 120 volunteers will begin framing the new townhome the morning of Thursday, April 6 on Toshiba Plaza at T-Mobile Arena. Volunteer builders will enjoy live entertainment from local bands, along with food and beverages from T-Mobile Arena, throughout the day. A ceremony including remarks from partner executives will take place following the build at 4:30 p.m.
Al Welch, Las Vegas market president of Bank of America said, “Investing in economic engines like the housing supply and entertainment complexes create a positive, catalytic impact that makes financial lives better, so our work with Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas and all the partners in the T-Mobile Arena project is exactly what we are here for.”
Phyllis A. James, MGM’s Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer and Habitat Las Vegas Board Member added, “MGM Resorts International has a long-standing partnership with Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas to further our commitment to building sustainable communities, for today and generations to come. Affordable housing for families and individuals is the building block of safe, stable neighborhoods, and one of the most pressing needs in our nation. MGM Resorts is honored to serve families in our local community in this vital way.”
Mike Borden, chairman of Habitat Las Vegas, said, “We are excited for this wonderful partnership with Bank of America and MGM Resorts to frame a home at T-Mobile Arena. We are grateful for the community’s involvement and support; allowing us to continue strengthening Habitat’s mission to provide low-income families in need with decent and affordable housing throughout Clark County.”
Below is the schedule of the build and anniversary celebration:
Thursday, April 6
7:30 a.m. – Project kickoff with wall-raising and framing
8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Volunteers continue the build
3:30 p.m. – Live entertainment
4:30 p.m. – Anniversary celebration and remarks from Bank of America, MGM Resorts and Habitat Las Vegas
Following its completion, the townhome framework will remain on Toshiba Plaza throughout the weekend before it is transported to Henderson, where Habitat Las Vegas already has completed 29 homes. As part of the City of Henderson’s Eastside Redevelopment Plan, Habitat Las Vegas will continue its efforts to revitalize and eliminate blight from the community with the addition of 20 townhouses in Henderson’s Pittman region, slated for construction this fall. Funding of the 20 Henderson homes is made possible in part thanks to Bank of America’s signature $200,000 Neighborhood Builders grant, awarded to Habitat Las Vegas in 2016.
