LAS VEGAS – Zumanity is a provocative cabaret-style production with a Cirque du Soleil twist. On the cutting edge of contemporary Las Vegas entertainment, the adult-themed 90-minute production blends playful innuendo with daring eroticism in the intimate Zumanity Theatre at New York-New York Hotel & Casino.
With Zumanity, Cirque du Soleil takes a bold new direction, exploring the full spectrum of human sexuality and intimacy to create a mosaic of love in all forms and from all perspectives. Emceed by Zumanity’s “Mistress of Sensuality” Edie (famed drag diva Christopher Kenney) and distinguished by an unconventional culture of artists and candid exposition of eroticism, the production renders a tale of emotional freedom, natural beauty and acceptance of differences.
In 2015, Cirque du Soleil introduced new sensual surprises to Zumanity including choreography by Yanis Marshall, erotic aerial acts, costumes by French designer Thierry Mugler and music by composer Simon Carpentier, all enhanced by tantalizing new projections.
Zumanity is inspired by infinite individuality and variety—a concept embodied by its artists, who come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities and genders. Featuring an international cast of 46 performers, the artists of Zumanity are more identifiable as individual characters than in any previous Cirque du Soleil production. The show’s seductive theme is highlighted by such traditional circus arts as contortion, acrobatics, aerial stunts and hand-balancing, while sensuality comes alive through a multicultural variety of dance genres including African dance, tango, contemporary dance, striptease and men dancing in high heels as made famous by Yanis Marshall.
The seduction takes place in the 1,261-seat Zumanity Theatre, a cozy space custom-designed to meet the unique demands of the show, featuring seating options ranging from a romantic duo sofa for two to a solitary cabaret stool or a traditional theatre seat.
From a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Cirque du Soleil is now a major Quebec-based organization providing high-quality artistic entertainment. The company has close to 4,000 employees, including 1,300 performing artists from close to 50 different countries. Cirque du Soleil has brought wonder and delight to more than 155 million spectators in more than 300 cities in over forty countries on six continents.
In Las Vegas, Cirque du Soleil has eight permanent resident shows. These productions include Mystère at Treasure Island, “O” at Bellagio Resort & Casino, Zumanity at New York-New York Hotel & Casino, KÀ at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, The Beatles LOVE at The Mirage Hotel & Casino, CRISS ANGEL Believe at Luxor Hotel and Casino, Zarkana at ARIA Resort & Casino and Michael Jackson ONE at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
