SPRINGFIELD, MA (April 17, 2018) – When MGM Springfield opens later this year, Western Mass News will “go live” with an on-site standalone studio located just off of the resort’s outdoor plaza.
This studio will broadcast select news of the day from Springfield to Western Mass News’ local stations which include WGGB-TV (ABC/Fox) and WSHM-LD (CBS). When the studio is not in use, guests will be invited to step on set and take a selfie in the “Western Mass News Experience.”
“The addition of this studio validates the long-term growth of Springfield as a TV market and we’re looking forward to the opportunities it presents for our live, local programming,” said John Hesslein, Vice President & General Manager of Western Mass News. “MGM Springfield is a great catalyst for the renaissance happening in the city and Western Mass News is looking forward to playing a role in Springfield’s growth by broadcasting from this new studio location in the heart of downtown.”
The Western Mass News studio will boast floor-to-ceiling windows allowing passersby to peek in on live broadcasts and interviews. MGM Springfield will also become a visual backdrop for live weather and beauty shots.
Michael Mathis, president of MGM Springfield, said, “The addition of the Western Mass News TV studio to our resort will create a great energy for guests on the plaza. There has never been a more exciting time in Springfield and with so much news to share about what’s happening around the city we’re thrilled Western Mass News chose to make their permanent home at MGM Springfield.”
