Springfield Police and Firefighters Unions Endorse MGM Springfield
MGM Receives the Exclusive Endorsement of Key Public Safety Unions
SPRINGFIELD (MA) Dec. 12, 2012 – MGM Resorts International today announced that its MGM Springfield proposal has received the exclusive endorsements of the Springfield Patrolman’s Union and the Springfield Association of Firefighters. These endorsements are a testament to MGM’s strong commitment to public safety.
The announcement was made during a joint event with members of both the Patrolman’s Union and Association of Firefighters gathered at the MGM Springfield Community Office on Main Street to show their support for MGM Springfield.
“MGM understands that our first responders are critical to ensuring a safe and secure community,” said Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts President and Chief Marketing Officer and MGM Springfield President and Chief Operating Officer. “That is why it is an honor to receive the endorsement from Springfield’s dedicated police and firefighters.”
Over the past several months, MGM Resorts executives and the MGM Springfield local team have met with public safety officials in the city to better understand their needs and their priorities. MGM presented their plan and vision for Springfield as well as their experiences enhancing public safety in other jurisdictions.
“MGM has a successful track record of partnering with local public safety personnel,” explained Joseph Gentile, President of the Springfield Patrolman’s Union. “The MGM corporate model for collaboration is truly encouraging and something we believe will serve the City of Springfield well not only downtown but throughout the entire city.”
The Springfield Patrolman’s Union represents 370 police officers across the city.
“We respect MGM’s commitment to our city and its residents,” said David A. Wells, President of the Springfield Association of Firefighters. “MGM Resorts is the best company, with the best plan, and the best location to improve our public safety, quality of life and economic future.”
The Springfield Association of Firefighters represents 215 firefighters, emergency medical service personnel and other first-responders that serve Springfield every day.
MGM Resorts is the first applicant for a casino in Springfield to receive any public union endorsements. Hornbuckle said he was encouraged by the confidence the unions have placed in MGM’s proposal.
“We look forward to continuing our discussions with police, fire, EMS and other critical government and community groups to develop and build strong partnerships essential in moving Springfield forward,” Hornbuckle added.
