More Excitement Coming to Downtown Springfield this Fall

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (July 22, 2019) – MGM Springfield continues to elevate the entertainment scene in downtown Springfield with an eclectic mix of shows for a diverse audience of concert-goers. Coming this fall, R&B and soul music icon Smokey Robinson will captivate guests with a heartwarming performance Friday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m., followed by a holiday themed night of music featuring Brian Setzer and his 16th Annual Christmas Rocks! Tour presented by SiriusXM Thursday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. Both shows will be held at the historic Symphony Hall in downtown Springfield.

Smokey Robinson
William “Smokey” Robinson, Jr. is a legendary singer-songwriter, record producer, record executive and co-founder of Motown Records. In 1960, Robinson and his group, The Miracles, recorded  Motown’s first million-selling hit, “Shop Around,” and between 1960 and 1970, they would go on to produce 26 Top 40 hits including “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me,” “I Second That Emotion” and the group’s only No. 1 pop hit, “The Tears Of A Clown.” Other notable hits include “Ooo Baby Baby” and “The Tracks Of My Tears.”  In 1975, Robinson released his most successful solo album, A Quiet Storm, which yielded three hit singles -- “Baby That’s Backatcha,” “The Agony & The Ecstasy” and “Quiet Storm.”

Robinson is a GRAMMY Award-winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Kennedy Center inductee, has been awarded an individual star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a second star with The Miracles. He was awarded a medal at the National Medal of Arts, A Heritage Award at the Soul Train Music Awards and a BET Lifetime Achievement Award. Howard University and Berklee College of Music also honored him with a Doctor of Music degree.
