MGM Resorts Delivers Phase II Response In City of Springfield's Casino Selection Process

Includes More Than 3,000 Permanent, 2,000 Construction Jobs

SPRINGFIELD (MA) Jan. 3, 2013 – MGM Resorts International today submitted to the City of Springfield Office of Procurement its detailed response to Phase II of the city's casino selection process. 
 
MGM Springfield’s local team delivered 18 copies of the 700-page RFQ/P response to Springfield City Hall this morning. The team was accompanied by local supporters, Brent Bertelli, owner of Langone's Florist, and Ivette Cruz, Executive Director of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center. 
 
Michael Mathis, MGM Resorts Vice President of Global Gaming Development, who led the team to Springfield City Hall, said: "MGM is excited to have reached this important milestone in the city’s casino selection process.  We believe we have provided a comprehensive response to the city’s RFQ/P that will exceed expectations and provide a significant value to Springfield residents.”

MGM's submission detailed its plan to develop a more than $800 million world-class residential, dining, retail and entertainment district in Downtown Springfield. The MGM Springfield plan envisions a revived Main Street area with people walking along vibrant tree-lined streets overflowing with restaurant choices, a variety of shopping options for everyone in the family, an outdoor stage, movie theaters, a casino and hotel that all respect and complement the area’s existing iconic architecture. It also includes plans for an enhanced Riverfront Park, which is in close proximity to the proposed project, and integration of a revitalized Union Station.
 
Phase II required operators to put forth more in-depth information about their proposals. MGM's submission highlighted how MGM Springfield would create more than 3,000 permanent direct jobs, 2,000 construction jobs, generate millions in annual tax revenues, and spur economic development in Springfield. The spin-off indirect jobs that MGM’s facilities historically create are also in the thousands. 
 
MGM’s response also highlights its commitment to the community beyond its project area. Last year, MGM announced it would create a $5 million loan fund, the Fund for a New Springfield, to help grow local small businesses and vendors. The fund will provide micro loans to local businesses that will need capital to make improvements or expand as a result of the development of MGM’s proposed Springfield operations. MGM views its relationships and partnerships with local small businesses as key to its success in Springfield. 
 
Mathis said, "We look forward to an ongoing dialogue with city officials and the community about the large number of jobs our project will bring to the city as well as the additional economic benefits that are tied directly to our unique proposal.  Our RFP submission is another significant demonstration of our desire to partner with the City of Springfield.”
