Pledges Energy Reduction Goal of 20% by 2020

"MGM Resorts is committed to being a leading corporate citizen in all it does. Climate change and consumption of traditional energy sources is among the most critical issues of our day," said Jim Murren, Chairman & CEO of MGM Resorts International.

"Innovating our resorts to operate more efficiently, while also offering a remarkable guest experience, is a top priority for our company," said Cindy Ortega, Chief Sustainability Officer of MGM Resorts International. "Joining the American Business Act on Climate Change, as well as our previous pledge to the U.S. Energy Department’s Better Buildings Challenge, is another step in our promise to guests, employees and our surrounding communities to employ sustainable best practices at all of our resort destinations."

CityCenter, an urban resort destination on the Las Vegas Strip featuring ARIA Resort & Casino, earned one of the highest LEED achievements of any hotel, retail district or residential development in the world from the U.S. Green Building Council with a Gold certification for its hotel tower, convention center and theater, Vdara Hotel & Spa, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas, Veer Towers and Crystals retail and entertainment district.

MGM recently installed the world’s largest rooftop solar array on a convention center at Mandalay Bay, stretching 20 acres and producing enough electricity to power 1,000 U.S. homes annually.

In addition to the Pledge, 15 MGM Resorts properties have received a green key designation by The Green Key Eco-Rating Program, a ranking service based on hotels’ sustainability efforts and recognized by such travel services as AAA, Travelocity and Expedia. Bellagio, ARIA, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand Las Vegas and Vdara have each additionally earned the prestigious "5 Green Key" distinction for their Green Key Meetings Programs.

MGM Resorts International is also a 2014 recipient of the Galaxy Star award from the Alliance to Save Energy, and is named among Newsweek Magazine’s most environmentally responsible companies in the United States
