MGM National Harbor Employment Center Opens

$4 Million Refurbished Center Offers Onsite Career Support
to Fill 3,600 Jobs through Opening

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md., (June 20, 2016)  – MGM National Harbor, the destination resort, which opened in Prince George’s County, Md. in the fourth quarter of this year, today announced it has completed its $4 million refurbishment of the once-vacant Thomas Addison Elementary School and reopened it as the MGM National Harbor Employment Center. The resort’s executives celebrated its grand opening with state and local officials, including Maryland State Senator C. Anthony Muse and Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker.
The Center will serve as the ongoing training and recruitment facility for MGM National Harbor. It is also home to the Prince George’s Community College Dealer School, Poker School and MGM National Harbor’s human resource and workforce teams, who conduct talent screening, employment processing and skills training. MGM National Harbor’s employment center will begin to take appointments for interested candidates beginning, Friday, June 24 during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., by calling 301-971-5700.
“We are excited to open the MGM National Harbor Employment Center,” said Logan Gaskill, vice president of human resources, MGM National Harbor. “With so many opportunities available across various departments, we will now have a dedicated resource center to prepare and train thousands of residents interested in pursuing one of the 3,600 available careers.”
The destination resort will begin to hire for a wide variety of hospitality positions including food and beverage, casino, security, marketing and hotel operations, valet, convention services, theater operations, and retail in July.
Lorenzo Creighton, president and COO, MGM National Harbor, said “Thanks to our minority business partner, Gilford Construction, we were able to restore a piece of Prince George’s County history, which will serve as an important career resource for the community. We can all relish in this great accomplishment.”
The school was abandoned for nearly five years before the Prince George’s County Board of Education approved the request by MGM National Harbor to take ownership and restore the 24,000-square-foot space that sits on 7.3 acres of land. As part of the agreement with Prince George’s County, MGM National Harbor will return the building to the Oxon Hill community once it is has completed its use as the employment center.
The renovation project was awarded last year to Gilford Construction, a veteran-owned company and Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) based in Prince George’s County, Md. Gilford Construction is among more than 125 MBEs engaged in the MGM National Harbor project, highlighting MGM’s continued efforts to work with local businesses that reflect the diversity of the community. Today, the center features most of the school’s original structure and some special tiles that were handmade by students of the elementary school.
