DETROIT, March 2, 2015 – MGM Grand Detroit has announced it will return for the second consecutive year as the title sponsor of Gutierrez Brother Racing. The Berkley Michigan based NHRA Top Alcohol drag racing team, made up of Phillip (Phil) and John Paul (JP) Gutierrez, will appear at regional and national NHRA competitions and select events in Detroit.
“MGM Grand Detroit is proud to partner with Gutierrez Brothers Racing. Last year, JP and Phil embodied the core values of our property – Teamwork, Integrity and Excellence” said Matt Buckley, Vice President of Marketing at MGM Grand Detroit. “We are looking forward to another great season of racing and the added exposure in some of our key markets throughout the Midwest.
Last year was a season of learning for Phil, who serves as the chief mechanic, and driver JP. They achieved a top speed of 261 mph and a low ET of 5.44 seconds. This season, the team has made numerous upgrades to the valvetrain and fuel system, which will add needed horsepower that should translate to quicker times and higher speeds down the track at two national and three regional events they will be competing at.
Their racing schedule is as follows:
May 1-3 Lucas Oil Regional #1, Clemont, IN
May 15-17 Lucas Oil Regional #2, Norwalk, OH
June 5-7 Lucas Oil Regional #3, Joliet, IL
July 2-5 Sunoco Race Fuel National, Norwalk, OH
July 9-12 Sunoco Race Fuel National, Joliet, IL
The Gutierrez Brothers’ 2015 dragster will be unveiled on March 6 at Cobo Hall in Detroit at Autorama.
In following MGM Grand Detroit’s corporate social responsibility focus, the dragster will be onsite to help promote the Forgotten Harvest, a food bank dedicated to relieving hunger in Metro Detroit and at the Cruisin’ to Drive out Hunger annual Dream Cruse preview party taking place on Friday, Aug. 14.
