Coney Island favorites available 24 hours at new location

DETROIT, March 13, 2017 - MGM Grand Detroit is proud to announce it will be home to the first National Coney Island in downtown Detroit. Opening today, Monday, March 13 at 11 a.m., the location is National Coney Island’s 18th restaurant in Southeast Michigan.

“Bringing National Coney Island to our guests is a continuation of MGM Grand Detroit’s mission to work with Michigan companies and support local businesses,” said Mike Neubecker, president and COO at MGM Grand Detroit. “After last year’s successful opening of The Roasted Bean Detroit, which features local products and fresh baked goods, we look forward to adding another experience that is distinctly Detroit for our guests with National Coney Island and its menu of local favorites.”
The new National Coney Island location will replace Relish in the Breeze Dining Court. The menu will feature great-tasting classics including National Coney Island’s famous coney dogs, popular Hani™ sandwiches and award-winning chili. These distinctive chili dogs will also be available at any time of day inside the restaurant, as well as at TAP at MGM Grand Detroit and as a catering option for banquet events.
“We are thrilled to join the downtown Detroit community and open a National Coney Island in one of the most notable casinos in the country, MGM Grand Detroit,” said Tom Giftos, president of National Coney Island.
For more than 50 years, National Coney Island has been a favorite destination for Metro Detroit families in search of fast and fresh food with friendly service. Founded in Roseville by James Giftos, the original location opened in 1965 at the Macomb Mall where customers were served Coney Island-style hot dogs and hamburgers.
