BILOXI, Miss. (August 8, 2016)—Plans are underway for the Ninth Annual Moonlight & Magnolias signature “Dancing with the Stars” themed fundraiser presented by Beau Rivage Resort & Casino to benefit the American Red Cross of Southeast Mississippi. Festivities will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, in the Magnolia Ballroom at Beau Rivage in Biloxi.
"MGM Resorts and Beau Rivage have been long-time supporters of the American Red Cross," said Mary Cracchiolo Spain, MGM Resorts Communications Director and 2015 Chair for the Red Cross board. "For the ninth consecutive year Beau Rivage has underwritten this signature event, so that every penny raised will go directly to supporting those in need."
The American Red Cross has responded to disaster areas for more than 130 years, making it the oldest and largest humanitarian aid organization in the world. Over the past year, the American Red Cross of Mississippi responded to over 1,700 home fires and Red Cross volunteers installed 5,400 free smoke alarms in homes in Mississippi. The Red Cross also provided emergency relief efforts to five natural disasters from July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016. Money raised from the event will benefit the local Red Cross Chapter. Fundraising from Moonlight & Magnolias helps the Red Cross maintain continual disaster preparedness training of Chapter volunteers and staff so that they are ready when the next disaster strikes.
“The Moonlight & Magnolias Gala has become a signature event on the Mississippi Coast and it gets better every year,” said gala committee co-chairs Jessica Crosby and Christen Duhe’.  “An evening of great food, dancing, silent and live auctions, a celebrity dance competition and a chance to honor a great humanitarian are enough to make it a hot ticket, but the best part is that we’re raising a lot of money to support our local Red Cross chapter.”
The highlight of the evening will be entertainment by this year’s coast celebrity dancers:
Anita Clark, Brand Ambassador for C Spire
Caty Mahoney Hulett, Mary Mahoney’s and J. Carter Real Estate and Investments
Lynn Lofton, Editor of South Mississippi Living
Frank Martin, Vice President of Finance and Controller for Ingalls Shipbuilding
Jourdan Nicaud, local Restaurateur and owner of the Bacchus Group of Restaurants & Oyster Reef Club
Robert Ridgway, Director of Business Development for Yates Construction's Southeast Division
Last year’s celebrity dancers will have the opportunity to return as judges for the evening. WLOX’s Jonathan Brannon will emcee and musical entertainment will be provided by Starz.
The Chapter will also honor longtime Red Cross and Gulf Coast community volunteer Elizabeth “Liz” Corso Joachim as its 2016 Humanitarian of the Year. Joachim currently operates Corso’s Inc., a 90-year-old family-run wholesale distribution and full-line vending business.  She also owned and operated Liz Joachim’s Emporium in Biloxi until 1992.  Her vast civic involvement includes service on boards for Biloxi First, Gulf Coast Carnival Association, Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, Salvation Army, Mississippi Commission for International Cultural Exchange, University of Southern Mississippi Honors Special Board, Tulane Gulf Coast Campus Advisory Board, Gulf Coast Business Council, Biloxi Development Commission, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast, Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Biloxi Chamber of Commerce, Biloxi Rotary Club, Biloxi-Ocean Springs Junior Auxiliary, William Carey College Coast Board, and the American Red Cross, among others.  She is married to John (Jack) Joachim, Jr. and they are the parents of three children and four grandchildren.
General admission tickets are $100. For sponsorship details or to purchase tickets, call John McFarland or Michelle Wilson at (228) 896-4511 or visit any of the Red Cross offices along the coast.
All proceeds support the American Red Cross of Southeast Mississippi.  The American Red Cross of Southeast Mississippi serves the southern 28 counties of the state and relies on community members for generous contributions of time, talent and financial donations. The Red Cross is not a government agency. It’s a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
