Fallen Oak To Host 2015 Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic
Event returns to MGM Resort International's course for 6th year; new spectaor viewing areas on #17 and #18
Biloxi, Miss. (Dec. 31, 2014) – The 2015 Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic Presented by C Spire will take place March 23-29 at MGM Resort International Resort’s Fallen Oak.. This will be the sixth year that the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Fallen Oak will host the best players on the Champions Tour.
The 2015 tournament expects to attract another world class field. Last year’s event featured nine World Golf Hall of Fame members, 20 PGA TOUR Major winners covering 33 titles, and 22 Champions Tour Major winners covering 37 titles. Past champions include Jeff Maggert, Michael Allen, Fred Couples, Tom Lehman and David Eger.
“We’re extremely proud to host some of the nation’s best golfers at Fallen Oak, a course that’s as challenging as it is beautiful,” said George P. Corchis, Jr., President and Chief Operating Officer of MGM Resorts Southern Operations. “We look forward to having the Champion’s Tour players test their skills while immersed in some of the most spectacular natural beauty Mississippi has to offer.”
Unique among Gulf Coast courses, Fallen Oak features dramatic elevation changes, which Fazio incorporated among the more than 4,000 oaks, magnolias, pines and other hardwood trees that join the ponds, streams and wetlands that frame the course.
Aside from those elevation changes, remarkably true-rolling greens and Fazio’s dynamic design tactics of using the DeSoto National Forest and all its inherent natural elements as a template, the multi-million dollar course features gently rolling terrain and pecan orchards.
“This is one of the player’s favorite events on the Champions Tour schedule,” said Tournament Director Steve Nieman. “They look forward to playing Fallen Oak just weeks before The Masters, and they genuinely enjoy spending time on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast and experiencing the southern hospitality we’re famous for in Mississippi.”
The 2015 event will feature more opportunities for the public to get up close and personal with the players. Additional skyboxes are being added on the Par-3 17th hole, and a newly designated viewing area will be available on the 18th hole. For the fifth consecutive year, all three tournament rounds will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel.
